Huacachina

Spent the weekend surfing the sand dunes in a place called Huacachina, just next to Ica. Took a 12hr bus ride with Jack, Gideon, Peter, Claire and Beka to get there, but it was well worth it. Stayed in quite a nice hostel that had a bar next to quite a big pool, which was really nice.

First day we arrived, went on 2hr boarding tour, surfing down huge mountains of sand, some storey's high. As a result, i don't think i really have a fear of heights anymore. It was probably the most extreme sport I've done, and i came away from it with a tonne of sand in my ears, mouth, pants and shoes. SUCH good fun.

Jack just a little bit excited

Yes we boarded down that. And yes, those tiny dots are people.

That night was basically consisted of a lot of good wine, a yummy salad next to the lake, followed by a hike up one of the dunes to overlook some fireworks that were on display from one of the hostels. I think one of the most amazing things about Huacachina, is that it has a large lake, ringed by a heap of nice bars and restaurants, which are all surrounded by a huge desert... kind of the opposite to a beach i suppose. So sitting at the top of one of the dunes, we had a pretty clear view of all the buildings in the town, which was gorgeous.

Left the following day to go to Lima for a a day, which was also quite beautiful. (Despite what others might tell you) Big city, but nice for a change (in comparison to small town Arequipa). It seemed like there were lots of things to do, however on my only full day there, all the galleries were closed, so ended up just wandering around the city! There i met up with Tess and her friend Jamie, and we've just arrived in Cusco this morning, starting our 2 weeks trip together. Looking forward to our Amazon trek on Friday!

Jack and Gideon. Cool guys.
