Public Transport

Thanks to the amazing bus guide courtesy of Jazz, i´ve managed to master which buses i need to take, and where their exact route is. Unfortunately i still haven´t grasped the act of finding the right stop, exeplified today when i got off 30minutes too early. Very frustrating.

Weekend Celebrations

Last weekend Argentina celebrated her 200yr birthday. This of course meant big parties, large marching parades, street performances, famous Argentinian singers, fantastic street BBQs, rediculous prices and over 8 million people. So it comes as no surprise that i got stuck in a crowd for 3 hours trying to cross the street to my hostel. Good fun nonetheless.

What I Love About Buenos Aires

(1) The city itself

...I had to

(2)Music and Dance
Ubiquitous in the streets

(3)Shopping.
Honestly, here is one of the best places to go to find anything you could possibly imagine. In particular, i absolutely love the San Telmo antique market on Sundays, where you can find anything from sunglasses to tobacco pipes, to a random assortment of glass bottles... i even saw Salvatore Ferragamo shoes for just $30! Pity they weren´t my size.

And of course there´s just good old, European (and local) brands, particlarly down Santa Fe

Aaaagh

(4)Architecture.. if there´s something i haven´t seen much since i left, it´s good design. Love the mix of modern and Spanish influences

(5)Art!

3 videos of people sitting on park benches, but artist included his own dialogue.. very funny!

(6)Graffiti
Street art.. probably more common here than in Melbourne. Going on a graffiti tour tomorrow, should be fun!

(7)Football
Went to Canada vs. Argentina for the social game just before the World Cup. Went for some awesmoe beer and Choripan (chorizo and bread.. kind of like a south american hot dog). Argentina dominated, but nonetheless was still a very exciting match

Damnit.

Ipod stolen today. Of course it was all my fault, leaving it in the front pocket of my backpack. A few guys who saw what happened tried chasing the stupid loser, but were unsuccessful. Damn, damn, damn.

In better news, discovered this pretty cool abstract artist by the name of Fernando Apellido when i visited the Contemporary Art museum today... worth checking him out.

Buenos Aires tonight, looking foward to unpacking for a few weeks. See ya later!

To Market, To Market

Managed to get off my ass today and explore a little. Visited the famous Witches Market, where i bought a beauutiful alpaca scarf for $30 (expensive by Bolivian standards would you believe) Had my first South American japanese meal for $5, which was very tasty. Hopefully headed to Uyuni tomorrow if all goes well.
